Mindanao Displacement Dashboard, October 2016
Clan feuds led to two separate incidents of displacement in October 2016. The first, which occurred on 05 October, resulted in the displacement of an undetermined number of people in Sumisip, Basilan. Similarly, a clan feud in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao triggered the displacement of 403 families (2,015 persons) on 20 October. In both cases, no information was yet available on their current situation and/or protection needs. Meanwhile, a total of 474 families (2,370 individuals) were displaced due to flash floods in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao. Several other municipalities in Maguindanao and North Cotabato were also affected by the flooding. As of 31 October, all of those displaced by the floods had reportedly returned to their homes. On 21 October, fighting between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) triggered the displacement of 33 families (107 individuals) in Midsayap, North Cotabato. All of the IDPs had returned to their habitual residences as of 31 October, except for six families whose houses had reportedly been burned. In Matalam, North Cotabato, 172 families (860 persons) were displaced because of a firefight on 31 October, which arose from a land dispute between two private parties who are also affiliated with different armed groups. Encounters between the same parties had previously triggered two displacement incidents in Matalam in 2016. As of this report, all of the IDPs affected by the 31 October incident remain displaced.
