An estimated 2,311 families (13,927 persons) in Al-Barka, Basilan and approximately 181 families (905 persons) in Indanan, Sulu were forced to flee their homes due to clashes between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in these respective provinces. In Caraga, Davao Oriental, an armed encounter between the AFP and the New People’s Army (NPA) resulted in the displacement of around 70 families (399 individuals). In Maguindanao province, a total of 6,304 families (estimated 30,535 individuals) were displaced following military operations in several barangays in Datu Salibo, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Unsay, Shariff Aguak, and Shariff Saydona Mustapha municipalities. Harassment by a paramilitary group led to the displacement of around 821 families (2,759 persons) belonging to an indigenous peoples’ community in San Fernando, Bukidnon. UNHCR is closely monitoring these incidents in coordination with Protection Cluster partners. Meanwhile, some 2,505 families (13,914 individuals) who were displaced during the 2013 siege in Zamboanga City remain displaced in transitory sites; they, as well as those staying with host families, are still in need of durable solutions, and some have begun to access government assistance.
