Mindanao Displacement Dashboard, June 2016
Around 5,215 persons (1,035 families) were displaced due to a long-standing land dispute between two commanders from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Matalam, North Cotabato. In the municipality of Butig, Lanao del Sur, renewed clashes between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and a local armed group known as Maute group resulted to the displacement of approximately 8,710 persons (1,592 families) from various barangays within Butig before the AFP halted their military operations in observance of Ramadhan. Also, after four months of being displaced as a result of the AFPs’ Law Enforcement Operation (LEO) against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), people returned to their places of origin in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao. UNHCR is closely monitoring these incidents in coordination with the Protection Cluster members.
