The Law Enforcement Operation (LEO) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) had halted early this month but a number of families still can’t return home, the Focused Military Operation (FMO) of the AFP against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) is ongoing and occasional clashes involving the AFP and the New People’s Army (NPA) in other parts of Mindanao had families fled their habitual residences in April. 2,959 families (estimated 14,734 persons) have been displaced due to armed conflict, crime and violence as well as blood feuds and natural disaster. Of these, 1, 495 (7,473 persons) had already returned by the end of April. UNHCR in Mindanao has been actively monitoring these incidents in close coordination with Protection Cluster members.
