IDPPAR no. 9: Forced displacement in Guindulungan, Maguindanao due to family feud, Issue no. 1
INCIDENT BACKGROUND
On 30 March 2020, armed hostilities between warring families recurred in Barangay Muslim, Guindulungan Municipality. Similar skirmishes also occurred in Municipality of Talayan and Talitay which are reported to be politics- related. On 06 April 2020, families were again displaced in Barangay Muslim following related armed encounters in Talayan and Talitay. As of 08 July 2020, 193 families remain displaced in Barangay Sampao in Guindulungan, Maguindanao. Ongoing tensions transpire in the areas and IDPs are still on alert for impending firefights and displacements.
CURRENT SITUATION
As of reporting, 350 families (1,525 individuals) in Brgy. Sampao were displaced and temporarily occupying the evacuation center in the said barangay. Actions taken include IDP tracking and monitoring conducted by MDRRMO and MSWDO of the Municipality of Guindulungan, provision of food packs from municipal and provincial LGU and MSSD – BARMM, and provision of Core Relief Items from UNHCR and CFSI.
Among the expressed needs of the IDPs are food and livelihood assistance, shelter materials, washing areas and potable water. Also, there is only one functional communal latrine available in the site. Education and health are also their chief concerns since there are no available learning centers and school supplies for the children, and there are reported cases of diarrhea among the minors.
